We are struggling financially – should our in-laws help out?
Ok my husband and I are moving in with my parents and renting our house out as we can no longer afford our bills. A succession of bad luck such as me losing my job and my husband having to take a pay cut has left us paying bills on credit cards, overdrafts and loans for the past 18mths.
My parents haven’t got much but they help out with our childrens clothes and music lessons. My in-laws are very wealthy – they own their own property outright and another one outright which they rent out (both properties have a value together of about £900,000) they have umpteen savings policys and recently my husband’s grandmother died and his mother inherited £30,000. She continually shows us holidays homes which she is considering buying because the money – in her words – “is just sitting there” and she doesn’t know what to do with it. They lead a good lifestyle and they are lovely people and we are lucky to have them in our lives but they know the strain my husband and I are under. Our children are very distressed about leaving their home and it means changing their school.
